About The Staygineer
Eric Bryan Gonzales, Founder @ Staygineer

Most short-term rental owners are working hard on the wrong things.

They're optimizing their listing photos, chasing the algorithm, tweaking their pricing, and refreshing their review count; and none of that is wrong, exactly, but none of it is what actually determines whether a guest has an experience worth talking about. That happens inside the property. In the decisions that were made, or not made, about how the space works, what it communicates, and what it asks guests to do when no one is watching.

The Staygineer exists because that part of the business has been almost entirely ignored.

This is an independent publication built on the belief that the guest experience is a design problem, not a hospitality problem. It can be mapped, audited, and intentionally engineered; and when it is, the results show up in reviews, in repeat bookings, and in the reputation your property builds over time. That's not a theory. It's a discipline. We call it Staygineering.

What you'll find here is the full body of that work. The Environment Series teaches Guest Behavior Architecture from the ground up; how physical spaces produce guest behavior, where friction hides, and how to design it out. The Foundations Series covers the broader business of being a serious STR operator. The Backstage Series applies the same thinking inward, to the team and culture that produces the guest experience. And the question-driven content is here for the moments when you're mid-problem and need a direct answer.

Everything published here is built to be used. Read it, apply it, share it with the people who manage your properties. This is not content for content's sake.

Our promise is simple: nothing you read here will waste your time. Every post has a point, and the point always connects back to one thing; giving your guests a stay that was worth the trip.

Welcome to The Staygineer.
